2022 Return of the Son of Funky Drummer bottle

This is the 2nd iteration of Funky Drummer, the first being released from the 2017 vintage. It took some time for all of the pieces to come together in the right way and the right vintage for this follow-up. The 2022 version lacks the Syrah of the original bottling, but is brighter and approachable because of it. Composed of an interesting combo of granitic Mourvèdre and Grenache from stony soils on top of clay (50%-50%), this wine could be mistaken for a fine Cote du Rhone. The low yields in 2022 resulted in a wine with great depth and concentration of flavor, and a very pleasant touch of rusticity to add to its charms. A bright plummy red color, ever so slightly cloudy, in the glass (all of our wines are neither fined nor filtered). Peach and cherry aromas, intertwined with brambles and herbs – quite enticing. Some floral notes emerge with air. It is medium bodied, with a refreshing acidity, and some darker tones (earth and tar) in the back (Mourvèdre). Slightly dusty tannins in a long, herbal-tinged finish. It's got the groove... 60 cases made. 12.5% alc.
