native vegatation compliments the view

We grow red wine: Tempranillo (36%), Tannat (25%), Grenache (17%), Syrah (16%) and Cabernet (6%), plus a few "scattered" white grapes. We currently have 3.5 acres planted.  All of our vines (with the exception of the Tannat, which is a Tablas Creek selection) are own-rooted and self propagated, as we believe this provides the best, most direct connection of the vine with the soil.  Additional plantings (and replantings) will be done using the existing stock.
The vines are all head trained, regardless of variety, as this severe pruning method insures a naturally lower yield.  Close spacing (about 1100 vines per acre) allows us to keep the vines smaller than is normal in California, thereby reducing water use and limiting the yield per vine to no more than 3-5 pounds.

springtime

We farm by encouraging the forces of life.   Fertility is maintained by using on-farm produced composts and cover crops which nourish the soil naturally.  Insects and mildew are controlled using sprays made from herbs and natural minerals which boost the vine's natural immunity.  Vineyard activities are timed to work with nature and to respect natural rhythms.
As nothing external is introduced, this method is the only system which preserves an area's native flora and fauna.  By doing as little as possible, we allow Nature to fully express itself.

Our hillsides are steep!  This means hand farming much of it.  It also means unique exposures and microclimates.
Each block is a separate challenge.  We feel the extra work will produce wines of great intensity and longevity.
